| ham muḥabbat ke ḳharāboñ ke makīñ
|     vaqt ke t̤ūl-e alam-nāk ke parvardah haiñ
|     ek tārīk azal, nūr-e abad se ḳhālī!
| 
| ham jo ṣadyoñ se chale haiñ to samajhte haiñ kih sāḥil pāyā
| apnī tahżīb kī pā-kobī kā ḥāsil pāyā!
| 
| ham muḥabbat ke nihāñ-ḳhānoñ meñ basne-vāle
| apnī pā-mālī ke afsānoñ pah hañsne-vāle
|     ham samajhte haiñ nishān-e sar-e manzil pāyā!
| 
| ham muḥabbat ke ḳharāboñ ke makīñ
| kunj-e māẓī meñ haiñ bārāñ-zadah t̤āʾir kī t̤araḥ āsūdah,
| aur kabhī fitnah-e nā-gāh se ḍar-kar chauñkeñ
| to raheñ sadd-e nigah nīñd ke bhārī parde
| ham muḥabbat ke ḳharāboñ ke makīñ!
| aise tārīk ḳharābe kih jahāñ
| dūr se tez palaṭ jāʾeñ ẓiyā ke āhū
| ek, bas ek, ṣadā gauñjtī ho
| shab-e ālām kī "yā hū! yā hū!"
| 
| ham muḥabbat ke ḳharāboñ ke makīñ 
| reg-e dīrūz meñ ḳhvāboñ ke shajar būte rahe
| sāyah nā-paid thā, sāye kī tamannā ke tale sote rahe!
